Spain makes gold collection
June 19, 2023A triumph for padel, but especially for Spain. The hosts won all the gold medals in the team competitions of the FIP Senior European Championships, which ended at the Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Ciano in La Nucia. More than 500 ‘veterans’ from 17 different countries – Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden – battled it out in Alicante, but it was the Spaniards who prevailed in both the ‘Senior’ (Over 40, 45 and 50) and ‘Super Senior’ (Over 50, 55 and 60) categories.
Among the men, Spain took the Senior gold with Sweden silver and France bronze, while among the Super Seniors it was Italy that took the lowest step on the podium, with Sweden also in second place. Among the women, however, it was still Spain, Sweden and France in the Seniors but with Sweden and France reversed from the men’s standings; among the Super Seniors, finally, it was the Netherlands that came third, with Sweden still second behind the dominators of an exciting first edition of the Senior European Championships, in which almost 500 athletes took part.
