Padel not far from Wimbledon

Not far from the Thames, from Roehampton – where the Wimbledon tournament qualifiers are played – and only a 15-minute drive from the All England Club, here is the Rocks Lane Multi Sports Centre.

It’s in the Chiswick district that the FIP RISE ROCKS LANE CHISWICK will be played this weekend, the first of three Cupra FIP Tour events scheduled in Great Britain, another nation where padel is growing.

The tournament will host a men’s event and a women’s event, with 32 pairs in both draws. In the men’s, Britain’s number 1 Christian Medina Murphy (paired with Alberto Garcia Jimenez) leads a group of ‘home’ players that also includes Sam Jones, Richard Brooks, Chris Salisbury and Louie Harris, while Francis Langan and Nikhil Mohindra have received a wild card.

In the women’s draw, British number 1 Tia Norton will compete with Margarida Fernandes. Other British pairs in the draw are Lisa Phillips/Abigail Tordoff and the wild cards Amy Cairns/Laura Deigman.

“This is a great opportunity to play with some of the best padel players in the world – explained Chris Warren, the founder of Rocks Lane -. Our goal is to bring the sport to everyone and this event is the perfect way to inspire the next generation of young padel stars”.

The number 1 seed in the men’s draw is Spain’s Pedro Vera and Ignacio Piotto Albornoz; among the women, on the other hand, Ana Varo Ramos and Laura Gomez Pando lead the way.
