Coello-Tapia and Josemaria-Sanchez: Belgium crowns the number 1s

A great Sunday for Arturo Coello, Agustin Tapia, Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria. The Premier Padel Lotto Brussels P2 crowned the top seeded players in the two draws. Neither Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan among the men, nor Delfi Brea among the women were able to defend the title they won last year at the Gare Maritime Tour & Taxis in the Belgian capital, once again sold out for a show that for Coello and Tapia was worth their third title of the season (the second in a row after Doha, the first having come in Riyadh) and for Sanchez and Josemaria the second, again after Riyadh.

MEN The first set of the men’s final was dominated by Chingotto and Galan, who conceded no break points and closed 6-2 thanks to a smash error by Tapia. The first break points for the number 1 ranked players came in the first game of the second set, both cancelled. Break that came in the seventh game, after an endless battle and seven break points had by Coello and Tapia; counterbreak by Chingotto and Galan, another break by Arturito and Agustin, this time turned into the 6-4 point that sent the match to the third. A decisive set in which Coello and Tapia flew to victory, with a break at 2-1 coming with a magic from outside the door by Tapia, and another break at 4-1 that effectively settled the match, which ended 2-6 6-4 6-1 in two hours and 6 minutes. “Today was a great final against a pair that is incredibly difficult to play withCoello said –. We were strong, but not only us, the whole team working with us, because otherwise we would not be able to win”. “Thanks to all the people who have been here for the whole weekTapia added –. It’s a pleasure for us to play here. Every game against them is a battle, and it’s nice to have won another one”.

WOMEN
After victories in Gijon, Cancun, Miami and Doha, Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay were unable to continue their magnificent trophy series. Stopping Delfi and Gemma (who had won the last 22 matches in a row) were Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, who had only won the first tournament of the year (the P1 in Riyadh) and, above all, had lost three times out of three against one of the pairs born at the beginning of 2025, created with the aim of challenging the queens of world padel. The final lasted an hour and 46 minutes and was won 6-2 6-4 by Ari and Paula, who thus hold on to the top of the FIP ranking. “We worked hard, also because no victories had come in the last tournaments Ari admits –, but because of that we continued to believe in ourselves. Today is the day to celebrate, and it’s nice to do it with all these people”. “Thank you to the fans in Brussels for the supportPaula said –. We had to fight so hard against two great players like Delfi and Gemma, and we are very happy for this return to victory”.

The Qatar Airways Premier Padel circuit will come back in the second half of May, with P2 in Asuncion (19-25) and P1 in Buenos Aires (26-1 June).
