Day 2. Patiniotis and Gala, show in Tello and Libaak’s last dance

Ooredoo Qatar Major Premier Padel in Doha was Juan Tello and Tino Libaak’s last tournament as a pair. Closing it out in the round of 32 were Aris Patiniotis and David Gala, respectively number 57 and number 89 in the FIP ranking, who pulled off one of the feats of the day at the Khalifa Tennis&Squash Complex. The Italian and the Spanish won 6-2 7-6 in one hour and 28 minutes; victory against a seeded pair also for Mario Del Castillo and Ignacio Piotto (6-4 7-5 over Diestro/Ruiz, seeded number 16), as well as for Juan Cruz Belluati and Nachi Sager (7-6 2-6 6-0 over Javi Garcia and Javier Barahona, seeded number 14), for brothers Nuno and Miguel Deus over Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso (15) and for Victor Ruiz and Xisco Gil over Javi Leal and Sanyo Gutierrez (11, 6-3 4-6 6-2).  Winning debuts for the number 1 and 2 seeds: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia overcame Gonzalo Rubio and Pablo Lijo 6-4 6-2, while Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan beat Agustin Torre and Alvaro Cepero with a double 6-1. Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas had a more difficult debut, 7-6 6-4 over Pol Hernandez and Rama Valenzuela.

 

WOMEN Awaiting the debut of the first four pairs of the women’s draw set for Wednesday, the day on which the round of 16 will be played, the highest seeded pair to say goodbye to the tournament was number 8, with Aranzazu Osoro and Jessica Castelló beaten 6-3 6-4 by Agueda Perez and Melania Merino. The marathon of the day saw Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno (5) emerge victorious against Noa Canovas and Jimena Velasco, in the two-hour and 25-minute match that opened the day on centre court, where Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez will open the third day of the first Major of the year on Wednesday at 3 p.m. local time (2 p.m. CET).
