Here are the semifinals: Yanguas-Nieto and Lebron-Stupaczuk face the “Duelists”
March 22, 2025
Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto, Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk. They are the last obstacles standing in the way of the “Duelists”—Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia on one side, Ale Galan and Fede Chingotto on the other—on the road to another epic final. Saturday’s semifinals at the motorola razr Miami Premier Padel P1 will determine whether the top four players in the FIP ranking will face each other for the 16th time, in a rivalry that for nearly a year has captivated millions of fans in the stands and in front of TV screens worldwide.
THE DAY It was a dominant display of strength that brought the “Chingalan” duo back on top, as they controlled their match against Martin Di Nenno and Javi Garrido from start to finish. The final 6-1 6-2 scoreline for Galan and Chingotto at the Miami Beach Convention Center perfectly reflects the show put on by the No. 2 seeds, who advanced past their surprising quarterfinal exit at P1 Riyadh. On Saturday afternoon, not before 4 PM local time (9 PM CET), they will face Yanguas and Nieto, who battled through a hard-fought match against Leal-Gutierrez (6-4 7-6) in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The world’s No. 1 team also secured their semifinal spot. Against Navarro/Bergamini, however, the night was not an easy one for Coello and Tapia: after closing the first set 6-2, Paquito and Lucas pushed them to the limit—first with a chance to go up 5-1, then with a missed set point—before ultimately falling to the reigning champions. Lebron and Stupaczuk, on the other hand, dropped a set but eventually prevailed over Momo Gonzalez and Jon Sanz (6-4 3-6 6-3), setting up another showdown with Coello and Tapia, following their thrilling final in Riyadh.
WOMEN In the women’s draw, it will be time for Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria (1) to face Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez (3). Ari and Paula were relentless, extending their winning streak against Ustero/Alonso on Friday with a commanding 6-4 6-1 victory. However, the No. 3 seeds also dominated their match against Salazar/Virseda, sealing their quarterfinal win with a final score of 6-2 6-4.
A rematch is also set in the second women’s semifinal, where Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea (2) will once again face Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo (4), whom they defeated just days ago in the Mexico final, as well as in the Gijon semifinal before that. Both teams dominated their quarterfinals: Triay-Brea took down Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen 6-2 6-3, while the Spanish-Portuguese duo dropped just five games against Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno (6-3 6-2). This new showdown promises more thrilling action.
