The draws The trip of the world’s best pairs starts in Saudi Arabia
February 8, 2025The long and exciting journey of the Qatar Airways Premier Padel 2025 begins in Saudi Arabia. As happened last year, the first of a professional circuit and a unified ranking, the Riyadh Season P1 will be the first stage of a season that promises to be as extraordinary as last. There are many confirmed pairs, but even more new ones, with the hunt on for Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia in the men’s draw and Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria in the women’s, the defending champions in Riyadh. The men’s tournament was won by Juan Lebron and Ale Galan, the last title of one of the pairs that wrote the history of padel.
MEN The top four seeds (Coello/Tapia, Chingotto/Galan, Stupaczuk/Lebron and Yanguas/Nieto) will go straight into the round of 16. Pairs from number 5 to number 16, on the other hand, will benefit from a bye to then debut in the second round. For the number 1 in the FIP ranking, a possible quarter-final against Edu Alonso and Alex Arroyo (8), with Yanguas and Nieto who could instead meet another of the new pairs, Paquito Navarro and Lucas Bergamini (7). In the bottom half, however, there is a possible debut against Campagnolo/Sanchez for Stupaczuk/Lebron, who are placed in the same quarter-final as Martin Di Nenno and Javi Garrido (5), with Di Nenno having played with both the Argentine and ‘Lobo’ last season. For Chingotto and Galan, finally, dangerous crosses with Momo Gonzalez and Jon Sanz (6) or Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger (9).
WOMEN There will be 28 pairs starting in the women’s draw. Byes and access to the second round for the top four: Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez (1), Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay (2), Claudia Fernandez and Bea Gonzalez (3), Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo (4), with a possible semi-final match between the two pairs that swapped over the winter break. For the world number 1s, debuts against either Arruabarrena/Rufo or Collombon/Martinez, while Brea and Triay’s season could start with a big match, either against Andrea Ustero and Ale Alonso (first non-seeded pair) or Nogueira/Fassio. Hypothetical quarter-finals: Sanchez/Josemaria (1)-Icardo/Jensen (8), Osoro/Castelló (7)-Ortega/Araujo (4), Fernandez/Gonzalez (3)-Virseda/Salazar (6), Sainz/Llaguno (5)-Brea/Triay (2).
