Qatar, Laura Luján joins Nati López Díaz with her eighth triumph on the CUPRA FIP Tour
February 3, 2025A win that means a lot for Laura Lujan. The 2005-born player has tied with Nati Lopez Diaz in the ranking of women who have won the most titles in the CUPRA FIP Tour. At under 20 years old (she will turn 20 next April), the FIP ranking number 70 has claimed her eighth tournament win in the International Padel Federation (FIP) circuit. Partnering with Claudia Escacena, Lujan triumphed at the FIP Bronze Qatar in Doha, securing a comeback victory in the final against the British duo Rose and Gibson, with a score of 3-6 6-3 6-4.
Lujan, who won her first title in July 2023, also matches the achievements of Gonzalo Rubio, Jeremy Scatena, Fran Guerrero, Giulio Graziotti, and Flavio Abbate. She is now just one win away from overall leader Jairo Bautista, who has nine.
“I’m very excited to have won this prestigious tournament”, she said after the victory. The success is doubly significant, given the young age of both Lujan and her partner Escacena, born in 2007.
In the men’s category, instead, Francisco Cabeza and Santi Pineda won against the top-seeded Cassetta/Gonzalez duo with a score of 6-1 1-6 7-6. This is the second victory for the Spanish pair, who previously won the FIP Promotion Almeria last November.
