Day 4. Men’s and women’s, first two pairs in the finals

A very long and exciting day, the fourth of the FIP Platinum Mexico. Two rounds, quarter-finals and semifinals, in just a few hours, brought the first two pairs of the seeding in both the men’s and women’s draw to the finals, with an eye on the Race to the Premier Padel Finals in Barcelona. Among the men, at 8.30 pm Mexican time (3.30 am CET), Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini (1) will face off against Alex Ruiz and Alex Arroyo (2), the last three respectively number 17, 18 and 19 in the Race. Nos. 15 and 16 were eliminated: Pablo Cardona (15), paired with Javi Garcia, was beaten 7-6 6-7 7-5 in the quarters by Ruiz/Arroyo, who then repeated in the semifinals against José Diestro and Sanyo Gutierrez (16), with a score of 6-4 6-2. Garrido and Bergamini instead defeated first Victor and Javi Ruiz (7-5 6-0), then Enrique Goenaga and Teo Zapata (2-6 7-6 6-4).

 

WOMEN In the women’s draw, on the other hand, Ale Alonso and Lucia Sainz (1) will face Virginia Riera and Julieta Bidahorria (2) at 6 p.m. Mexican time (1 CET). Alonso, with 150 points already earned, returns to the Top 16 by overcoming Aranzazu Osoro, after victories against Jimena Velasco and Noa Canovas (6-1 6-4) and against Esther Carnicero and Marta Barrera (7-6 6-2). Riera and Bidahorria overcame Ana Catarina Nogueira and Laia Rodriguez with a score of 6-2 6-2, then followed this up with a semifinal victory over Ksenia Sharifova and Marta Marrero (7-6 6-3).
