Day 6. Stupaczuk and Yanguas’ perfect day: “Chingalan” out after 14 finals in a row
November 16, 2024Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas have already won a tournament on the Premier Padel circuit, in Newgiza, but they were dreaming a day like this. A perfect match, against a pair – the one formed by Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan – who had reached the final 14 times in 14 tournaments since they started playing together (from Puerto Cabello). This time, however, the number 4 seed overturned the predictions, finishing 6-3 6-1 in a match played with quality and intensity, in which ‘Stupa’ and Yanguas did not concede a single break point to their opponents. A match that started well right away, with a break in the opening set; in the second set, however, the break came at 3-1, without the ‘Chingalan’ being able to win any more games. To complete the masterpiece, however, the Argentine (who, from Monday, will be number 5 in the FIP ranking) and the Spanish will have to contend with the world’s best players: because if Chingotto and Galan stopped for the first time in the semifinals, the march of Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia continued. On Sunday, they will go in search of the 12th title of their incredible season. Coello and Tapia closed out an otherwise unforgettable week for Fran Guerrero and Jairo Bautista, who reached their first career semi-final on the Premier Padel circuit. Coello and Tapia conducted the match with authority; Bautista and Guerrero will be able to celebrate a jump of five (he will be number 23) and six positions respectively (he will be number 25) in the FIP ranking from Monday.
WOMEN The women’s final, which will open the programme at 5 p.m. local time (3 p.m. CET), will be between the top two seeds. On one side will be Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, in their 12th final of the season (eight wins and three losses), and on the other side Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, who have won four titles in 2024. The world number 1s suffered in the first set against Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo (4), suffering the counterbreak at 4-4 but dominating the tiebreak 7-0. In the second set, however, after a break for the Spaniard and the Portuguese, Paula and Ari won six games in a row (7-6 6-1). In the second semi-final, on the other hand, Triay and Fernandez dominated, and thanks to a 6-0 6-2 victory over Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez, the number 3 seed and winners of the P1 in Dubai, returned to play a final that had been missing since the P2 in Valladolid two months ago. Facing them were Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, with whom the head-to-head record is five wins each (3-1 in the finals for Paula and Ari).
