Aguascalientes, Soriano-Manquillo triumph in Mexico: “Dedicated to the Valencian Community”

Another win in the CUPRA FIP Tour for Letizia “Leti” Manquillo and Arantxa Soriano. Following their success at the Rise in Sassuolo last September, the two Spaniards clinched the title at the FIP Star in Aguascalientes, Mexico, where they were the No. 1 seeds. The decisive win came in two sets (6-3, 7-6) against the second seeds, Alba Perez Momha and Ana Varo Ramos. The victory was especially meaningful for Soriano, a native of Utiel in the Valencian Community, one of the towns affected by recent flooding.

Thank you, Leti, for understanding and supporting me through all these days”, Soriano said after the match. “I’m sorry if I wasn’t able to give my all at every moment, but we made it. Thank you for standing by me and for being such a mature young woman”. Then she turned her thoughts to her hometown: “When I arrived in Mexico, I had only one goal, to win this tournament and give voice to my city, and I did it. I want to thank the local authorities for their humanity and dedication to helping my town. To everyone who took the time to write to me, worry about my loved ones, and even help my family, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank God, we are all safe”. “Thank you, Arantxa, for your commitment during such a challenging time”, Manquillo added. “I hope I was able to give you all the support I could, even if it’s never enough in a moment like this”.

In the men’s tournament, the winners were the Argentinians Juan Ignacio Rubini and Manuel Gayone, who achieved their second consecutive victory after winning the Rise in Santiago. They triumphed over fellow Argentinians Oscar Matias Almada and Juan Manuel Argañaras.
