Marbella, Guerrero and Bautista make the double. Party also for Icardo-Jensen
October 19, 2024Not one perfect week, but two. Fran Guerrero and Jairo Bautista made the double. After winning the FIP Gold in Lyon, the Spaniards also lifted the trophy in the FIP Platinum in Marbella, also gaining 250 points in the FIP ranking. In the final at Club Nueva Alcántara, Guerrero/Bautista overcame Momo Gonzalez and Edu Alonso 6-4 7-6. A break in the tenth game in the first set and the tiebreak in the second, after Gonzalez and Alonso had served to take the match to the third, were decisive. For the Guerrero/Bautista pair it is the fourth title on the CUPRA FIP Tour, in three different categories, after the two Rise titles in Ceuta and Cordoba. “We thank all the fans, our families for coming here to support us – said Bautista –. This victory is very important, for everything we have done this week and also in the past week. We stayed focused even in complicated moments, thanks also to a super game from Fran”. “We played at a great level – added Guerrero – and this was also thanks to the work of our whole team”.
WOMEN More clear was the victory of Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen in the women’s final; the number 2 seed beat 6-3 6-1 Jessica Castelló and Alejandra Salazar, the number 1 seed. If for Icardo it’s a special title, coming after a long stop due to injury, Jensen returns to win almost seven months after her triumph in the P1 in Acapulco when the Argentinean played in a pair with Castelló, now an opponent, just as Icardo had started the season with Salazar. “I’m very happy to have won – said Icardo –. Being here and having won is the most important thing, also because those who have been close to me during this period know what I have been through”. “We are very happy to have won this tournament – added Jensen –. I thank and greet my father and brother who were here with me today”.
