Marbella, day 3: Garrido-Bergamini vs. Guerrero-Bautista, what a show!

Two more days to decide the queens and kings of the FIP Platinum Marbella. After rain yesterday forced only the round of 16 to be played, a double round is scheduled today, with the quarter-finals from 11.30 a.m. and the semifinals not before 5 p.m.. Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini, one of the most awaited pairs in this second FIP Platinum of the season, beat Alex Chozas and Leo Augsburger in a double tiebreak and today in the quarters they will face Fran Guerrero and Jairo Bautista, out of the top seeds but able to beat Pablo Cardona and Javi Leal in the first round and coming from their title in last week’s FIP Gold in Lyon. Nieto-Sanz/Tello-Jofre, Gonzalez/Alonso-Ruiz/Arroyo (both pairs won their round of 16 match in three sets) and V. Ruiz/Gutierrez-Diestro/J.Ruiz the other quarterfinals.

In the women’s draw, six of the eight seeds go ahead. The most interesting quarter-final is at the top: on one side Ale Salazar and Jess Castelló, the number 1 seed, on the other Bea Caldera and Lorena Rufo (5), champions of the FIP Gold in Lyon. Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen, who after a 6-3 6-3 win over Sharifova/C. Fassio in the quarters they find Marta Barrera and Marta Caparros, who eliminated (6-4 6-0) Sara Ruiz Soto and Ana Catarina Nogueira (7). Arellano/Lujan-Martinez Gomez/Goenaga and Osoro/Iglesias-Martinez/Collombon the other quarters.
