The draw, Coello-Tapia and Josemaria-Sanchez to win again in Roland Garros

Padel and the Premier Padel circuit comes back in one of the temples of world sport, Roland Garros, the scene of one of the world’s most important tennis tournaments and which also hosted the Olympic tournament in August. From Monday, the main draw of the Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel, the third Major of the season after Doha and Rome, will be played, with Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia among the men and Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez among the women aiming to confirm the title won in 2023 in the French capital. As many as 2,000 FIP ranking points are up for grabs for the winning pairs, with 56 ‘parejas’ in the men’s draw and 48 in the women’s.

MEN Coello and Tapia’s hunt for the tenth title of an incredible season will begin in the second round against a pair from the qualifiers. On the other side, the number 2 seed will be, as usual, Federico Chingotto and Ale Galan, opposing in the first round Alvaro Cepero and Miguel Benitez or wild cards Clement Geens (Belgium) and Dylan Guichard (France). As was the case in Madrid, Rotterdam and Valladolid, Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron (3) and Mike Yanguas and Franco Stupaczuk (4) will try to make their way into a draw that, among the seeded players, offers new pairs such as Lucas Bergamini and Javi Garrido (7), Alex Ruiz and Alex Arroyo (9), Victor Ruiz and Sanyo Gutierrez (10), Fernando Belasteguin and Tino Libaak (11), Juan Tello and Inigo Jofre (13) and Juanlu Esbri and Xisco Gil (15). These are the potential quarter-finals: Coello/Tapia (1)-Nieto/Sanz (6), Cardona/Navarro (5)-Yanguas-Stupaczuk (4), Di Nenno/Lebron (3)-Gonzalez/Alonso (8), Bergamini/Garrido (7)-Chingotto/Galan (2).

WOMEN In the women’s draw, Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez will start against Letizia Manquillo and Arantxa Soriano or Marta Borrero and Ana Catarina Nogueira. For Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez, who triumphed in the last tournament played (in Valladolid), debut against Noa Canovas and Jimena Velasco or Martina Fassio and Raquel Eugenio. Rounding out the podium are Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo (3), in the second round like all the seeded players, who drew Sofia Saiz and Marina Lobo or Carlotta Casali and Lorena Vano. Tamara Icardo is back on the court: the Spaniard has been missing since the P1 at the end of May in Santiago, and will play as a pair with Claudia Jensen (7). Also returning is Ale Alonso, who will play with another youngster, Jana Montes, as the number 14 seed. Here are the hypothetical quarter-finals: Sanchez/Josemaria (1)-Sainz/Llaguno (5), Virseda/Osoro (8)-Ortega-Araujo (3), Brea/Ustero (4)-Jensen/Icardo (7), Salazar-Castelló (6)-Triay/Fernandez (2).
