Day 4, Australia and Egypt in the semi-finals with two teams
September 25, 2024The FIP World Padel Championships Asia-Africa qualifiers have entered their decisive phase. The quarter-finals were played in Kuwait City today, with Australia and Egypt being the only two national teams to reach the semifinals in both the men’s and women’s draw scheduled for Thursday at 3 pm (local time). Australia beat Bahrain 2-1 on the men’s side and 3-0 the UAE on the women’s side, while Egypt beat Japan 3-0 in the men’s draw and Kuwait 3-0 in the women’s.
The direct clash in the men’s semi-final will be worth a place in the final, which is worth the only ticket to the final phase scheduled from 28 October to 2 November in Doha (Qatar); the other semi-final will instead see Iran (2-1 to hosts Kuwait) and the United Arab Emirates (2-1 to Saudi Arabia) face each other.
Australia and Egypt, on the other hand, are just one win away from Qatar in the women’s draw. The Australians will take on Japan, who beat Iran 2-1 tomorrow in the semifinals; for Egypt, on the other hand, the duel will be against the Philippines, who beat Oman 2-1.
Also tomorrow, the semi-final ties will be played in Kuwait City to determine the positions of the rest of the rankings.
