Day 3: Argentina-Brazil and Chile-Mexico, what exciting semifinals!
September 20, 2024Argentina-Brazil and Chile-Mexico: the X FIP Juniors Panamerican Padel Championships have reached their decisive stage with two identical matchups, in both the boy’s and girl’s categories, to compete in the semifinals scheduled for Friday. Day 3 in Aguascalientes (Mexico) saw Brazil triumph in the boy’s tournament, winning 2-1 in the quarterfinals against Paraguay: a closely contested “tie” that was decided by the Brazilian Under-18 team’s crucial victory, after wins by the Under-14 team and Paraguay’s comeback in the Under-16 category. The ‘Verdeamarela’ now join Argentina, who had already qualified for the semifinals thanks to a “bye,” and this will be the highlight match of the day, scheduled for no earlier than 6:30 PM (local time).
On the other side of the draw, it was Chile’s day, as they also won 2-1 against the United States. Their victory was secured early with wins in the first two matches of the tie, followed by a U.S. win in the third match, which had no impact. The Chileans will now face the host team, Mexico (also directly qualified for the semifinals due to a “bye”), in an exciting duel set to begin at 4:00 PM.
GIRLS In the girl’s tournament, the final day of the group stage confirmed Argentina’s dominance in Group A, after a 3-0 tie victory against Paraguay. The ‘Albiceleste’ secured the top spot in the group without dropping a set and will face Brazil in Friday’s semifinal (at 9:00 AM). The Brazilian team finished second in Group B, after a loss to Mexico (1-2) in the final tie of the first phase. The host team will face Chile in the semifinals (also scheduled for 9:00 AM local time), after Chile defeated Ecuador 2-1 on Thursday, earning second place in Group A.
