FIP Rise Padel Copa Utrecht, Carolina Navarro wins and gets excited

She was the most awaited player, and ended up celebrating in front of a great crowd. Carolina Navarro, now number 45 in the FIP ranking, paired with Patricia Martinez Fortun lifted the trophy in the FIP Rise Padel Copa Utrecht, beating Maria Portillo and Ainara Pozuelo 6-3 6-2 in the final. Navarro celebrated the victory with a long post on social media: “Ever since I saw the centre court in Utrecht last year, so different from everything else and with that atmosphere that made it so special, I wanted to come and play in the tournament. In my 30-year career I have never experienced anything like this. And the experience was incredible. For me it is still a gift of life to be able to continue to experience these exciting moments and I will enjoy it until the last minute. I want to thank Patri who wanted to play this tournament with me and fight alongside me. For my part it was a very hard month for many reasons, but with the support of my family, my friends, the team and Bruna, I was able to give my all and together with Patri win a FIP tournament, which is very very difficult today. So today I enjoy the victory and go back to training because on Wednesday I will make my debut in the Premier Padel in Madrid”.

In the men’s tournament, however, victory went to Jaume Romera (who climbed 31 places in the FIP ranking to number 195) and Diego Dorta (now number 233), 6-2 6-4 over Simone Cremona and Afonso Fazendeiro in the final. “After beating three seeded players we made it to the final and were able to proclaim ourselves champions”, Romera said. “We are happy with the level of the week and personally I’m happy to have won a professional title after two lost finals”. “I thank all my family and friends for the support they gave me from home and especially my coaches and my partner for bringing the tournament home”, added Dorta.
