Finland Premier Padel P2, the winners. Josemaria-Sanchez, historic record. Di Nenno-Lebron’s first time
August 4, 2024Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez more and more in history, Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron champions for the first time as a pair. It was the number 1 seeded players who triumphed in the Finland Premier Padel P2, both in the women’s and men’s draw: for the Spaniards it was their sixth title of the season, but above all their 33rd as a pair, allowing Paula and Ari to overtake the ‘Gemelas Atomikas’ Mapi and Mayo Sanchez Alayeto at the top of the ‘parejas’ with the most tournaments won. In the men’s tournament, however, came the first title of the season for Martin Di Nenno (in his second final); for Juan Lebron, on the other hand, it was the second after the P1 in Riyadh won in tandem with Ale Galan.
WOMEN In the women’s final, Josemaria and Sanchez overcame 6-3 6-1 Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo (2), who had triumphed against the number 1 seeded players in Genova. For Paula and Ari, however, this was their first P2 title after two majors (Doha and Rome) and three P1s (Riyadh, Mar del Plata and Malaga). If the first set was very balanced, in the second all the quality of the two champions came out. After an extraordinary start to the season, they had run out of victories from Doha to Mar del Plata, but they got going again, lifting the trophy in Finland without losing a set. “Today I want to think of my family, how many hours they have dedicated to me”, Josemaria said. “And I also remember all the teams that have brought me this far. It’s a very emotional time, from when I was four and started playing tennis until I started playing padel at 17. I always wanted to be number one but, when I reached that goal, I realised that what I really wanted was to make a mark and that’s what Ari and I are doing”.
MEN Only lost one set in a week, however, for Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron, champions in the men’s tournament. The Finland Premier Padel P2 was won by one of the new pairs formed in recent weeks, with Lebron returning to the left side to win another title in 2024 after Riyadh; for Di Nenno, however, a trophy in the Premier Padel circuit that had been missing since Doha 2023. Against Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, the number 6 seed and in any case protagonists of an impressive tournament, Di Nenno and Lebron had gone down by a break, before recovering the score and breaking their opponents in the 12th game. A break at the start of the second set, however, was enough to make the difference in favour of the Argentine and ‘Lobo’. “We dreamed of starting like this – Di Nenno said –. We started training together two weeks ago and we did it hard, also because people expected a lot from us. Juan also played in a crazy way on the left, I want to be with him in this period together. And this victory is also for Agustin Silingo, who is by our side”. “I associate myself with the dedication for ‘Agu’ – added Lebron –. He and Martin have supported me from the first moment, and together we have had a lot of fun. Now we enjoy a mini-vacation, then we start again”.
Premier Padel season stops for four weeks: it will come back from August 31th to September 8th with the Comunidad de Madrid Premier Padel P1.
