Dana Ackermann: “What an achievement for Germany the quarterfinals against Spain”
July 24, 2024Second place behind Italy in Group C of the FIP European Padel Championships and the quarterfinals become a reality for Germany, one of the emerging countries in this discipline. “For all of us, it has been a great tournament so far. We passed the first stage, and that was our goal”. Dana Ackermann, in her first experience with the national team, reflects on the first three days of the tournament, with her mind already on Thursday when the Germans will face Spain. “It is a great honor to be part of this team. Now that the goal has been achieved, we will fight to the fullest and see what happens. We want to have fun and enjoy this moment to the fullest. Today, we already faced Italy, one of the strongest teams, and even though we lost, we put in a lot of energy and enthusiasm”. Against the Spaniards, the big favorites for the final victory, “each of us will learn a lot”
An important milestone for a country where padel is in full expansion: “In Germany, it is growing a lot, especially in the western part where I live, and we want to contribute. We need to grow from a professional standpoint, especially in women’s tournaments, we need to increase the German presence. We are working on it”. How did she come across padel? “I started during the Covid period; in the sports club I used to attend, there were courts, and that’s how it started. I fell in love with it immediately”. And on her model player, she has no doubts: “Alex Arroyo, he plays really well, and I would love to play with him once. But in general, it would be nice to play in a mixed padel tournament”.
