FIP European Padel Championships, Biliński and Szczęsny: “Poland is growing, here and on YouTube we study the Spanish players”
July 24, 2024Pioneers of the “pala” in countries where padel is growing and has great development potential. The FIP European Padel Championships are not only the hunting grounds of Spain, Italy, France, Sweden, or Portugal, places where the discipline has been established for some time, but also of many places where it is growing rapidly despite having arrived only recently.
This is the case with Poland, which is in Cagliari with a strong desire to grow. “We know we are not the strongest team here, we won’t be the ones to win, but we still want to do well”, says Gabriel Biliński, born in 2001, one of the youngest members of the men’s team. The model remains Spain: “They are the favorites and it is amazing to see such strong players up close because there is so much to learn”, continues Wojciech Szczesny, Gabriel’s peer and namesake of the Juventus goalkeeper: “They ask me all the time if we are related, but there is actually no connection. And I am not a Juventus fan, but a Legia Warsaw fan”, explains Szczesny, who then returns to talking about the Spanish stars. “I always watch them on YouTube and now it’s incredible to see them play live. My model? Alex Arroyo, I really like his playing style”. After both training in tennis (even playing against each other in various tournaments), Gabriel and Wojciech are facing their first major tournament with the national team, a unique experience that they will carry with them in their personal journeys as well: “I am playing many tournaments in the CUPRA FIP Tour”, adds Gabriel. “The goal is to earn the necessary points to qualify for the most important tournaments”, Wojciech concludes: “I want to keep my place in the national team and in the coming months play in international FIP tournaments. Padel is growing rapidly in Poland and I aim to grow as well”.
