BNL Italy Major Premier Padel, day 2: feat of Bautista and Guerrero. All the big in action on Wednesday

On the day 2 of the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel, the feat came late in the evening. Jairo Bautista, number 40 in the FIP ranking, and Francisco Guerrero, number 51, defeated Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, the number 9 seed and coming from the title in Bordeaux. The other top seeds in the men’s draw won their opening match: Lucas Bergamini/Victor Ruiz (10), Lucho Capra/Alex Chozas (12), Javi Rico/Juanlu Esbri (16), Javi Ruiz/Pablo Cardona (15), on a Tuesday that also saw the debut of the first round matches in the women’s draw.

 

MEN Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, number 9 in the seeding, paid for the big night of Jairo Bautista and Francisco Guerrero, victorious 7-6 6-7 7-5 at the end of a match that lasted three hours and eight minutes. In the day’s other matches, Lucas Bergamini and Victor Ruiz, seeded number 10, gave up just three games (6-2 6-1) to Spaniards Jose Roman Martinez Sanchis and Pablo Castillo Valverde, who had come from the qualifiers, while Javi Rico and Juanlu Esbri (16) defeated Argentinian pair Juan Cruz Belluati and Miguel Lamperti in two sets: 6-4 7-5 the score in one hour and 35’. Two other Argentinian players, Lucho Capra and Alex Chozas (12), needed three sets to defeat Aris Patiniotis and Facundo Dominguez: 6-1 3-6 6-4 the final score in one hour and 54 minutes. Straight set win for Javi Ruiz and Pablo Cardona, who had the better 6-4 6-3 against ‘Pincho’ Fernandez and José Jimenez in one hour and 15 minutes. Tomorrow the top eight seeded pairs, who had benefited from a bye in the first round, will enter the stage. Juan Lebron and Paquito Navarro (4) will take on Italian-Argentine Denis Perino and Spaniard Pablo Garcia Rodrigo on the Centre Court in their second match, while Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, number 1 seeded pair in the men’s draw, will close the schedule on the Pietrangeli 1 against Spanish qualifiers Adrian Marques and Mario Huete. Federico Chingotto and Ale Galan (2) – on the same court – will be involved in the third match, scheduled at 5 p.m.

 

WOMEN Italy’s Giorgia Marchetti, paired with France’s Lea Godallier, defeated Alicia Blanco Rojo and Italy’s Lorena Vano in three sets – 5-7 6-3 6-1 – in 2 hours and 28’. In the next round tomorrow, Marchetti and Godallier will take on Carolina Orsi and Carolina Navarro (seeded number 14) in the first match on the Centre court at 9 a.m.. Orsi and Marchetti, one year ago, won the gold medal as a pair in the women’s competition at the European Games in Krakow. Tomorrow all the top seeded pairs will be on the court. Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria (1) will be on court at 6 p.m. for the third match on the Centre Court, while Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (2) will face qualifiers Marta Arellano and Carla Castillo in the second match on Pietrangeli 1. Virginia Riera and Sofia Araujo, seeded number 6, will face Italy’s Chiara Pappacena and Spain’s Xenia Clascà, who beat Raquel Piltcher (Brazil) and Carmen Castillon (Spain) 6-2, 7-6 today.
