BNL Italy Major Premier Padel, the draws: immediately “The Italian Job” for Chingotto and Galan

With the drawing ceremony and the start of the qualifying rounds, the second Major of the Premier Padel circuit season has officially begun. After Doha, we return to Rome for the third consecutive year with the Foro Italico – one of the iconic locations of Italian sport – ready to host the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel. The draw gifts a dream second round to at least one Italian player: in the first round, there’s a derby between two wild cards, with Riccardo Sinicropi (present at the draw along with Chiara Pappacena) and Lorenzo Di Giovanni on one side, and Simone Cremona and Portuguese Nuno Deus on the other. The winner (and there will surely be at least one Italian) will face Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, the number 2 pair in the 56-pair draw, where the top eight seeds will directly access the second round. In the upper part of the draw are Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, reigning champions at the Foro Italico, who will debut against Nunes/Silingo or a pair from the qualifiers. Also in the upper part are Juan Lebron (winner in 2022 with Ale Galan) and Paquito Navarro: their debut match will be against the Italo-Argentinian Denis Perino paired with Pablo Garcia Rodrigo or two qualifiers. In the same half as Chingotto and Galan are Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno: the Superpibes will begin their journey in Rome against Sanchez Chamero/Valdes or Quilez/Gonzalez. Potential quarter-finals: Coello/Tapia (1)-Yanguas/Garrido (6), Gonzalez/Ruiz (7)-Lebron/Navarro (4), Stupaczuk/Di Nenno (3)-Tello/Belasteguin (5), Sanchez-Gutierrez (8)-Chingotto/Galan (2).

WOMEN The world number 1s Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria will lead the women’s draw of 48 pairs, with the top 16 seeds starting their journey from the second round. For the Spanish pair, the debut will be against Saiz/Lobo or Schuck/Pujals. On the other side of the draw, the seeds will be Gemma Triay (who won last year’s first historic Premier Padel combined tournament with Marta Ortega) and Claudia Fernandez: their debut will be against Aguilar/Manquillo or a qualified pair. Closing the top three are number 3s Marta Ortega and Veronica Virseda, who will face either Barrera/Caparros or the Italian wild cards Montesi/Tommasi in their first match. Due to Bea Gonzalez’s injury, Delfi Brea will play the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel with 18-year-old Spaniard Alba Gallardo, ranked 121 in the FIP rankings: Brea/Gallardo will be the 4th seeds and will await the winners of Arruabarrena/Polo or a qualified pair in the second round. Potential quarter-finals: Sanchez/Josemaria (1), Salazar/Icardo (7), Castelló/Jensen (5)-Brea/Gallardo (4), Ortega/Virseda (3), Sainz/Llaguno (8), Riera/Araujo (6)-Triay-Fernandez (2).
