Banco de Chile Santiago Premier Padel P1, day 3. Nuria and Laia Rodriguez, what a feat: Delfi and Bea out
May 31, 2024Nuria and Laia Rodriguez, number 23 and number 50 in the FIP ranking, signed the feat of the day at the Banco de Chile Santiago Premier Padel P1: the two Spanish, after losing 6-1 in the first set, came back and beat Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez with a score of 1-6 6-3 7-5, stopping the run of the number 2 seed on the draw, who had reached the final in the last five tournaments of the season, winning four and losing only in Mar del Plata.
And, after the defeat, Bea was in tears, with the Movistar Arena fans showing her great affection with a long applause. At the top of the draw, however, no problem for Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, with the world number 1s taking just 44 minutes to defeat 6-0 6-1 Araceli Martinez and Marina Guinart.
Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (1) struggled for a set before defeating Carlotta Casali and Arantxa Soriano 7-5 6-1, while Alejandra Salazar and Tamara Icardo (4) were forced to retire in the first set of their match against Lorena Rufo and Bea Caldera in a bottom half where only two of four seeds are still in the main draw: Riera/Araujo (7) and Sainz/Llaguno (8).
MEN In the men’s draw, winning debuts for all the world’s best players. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia qualified for the round of 16 after Nachi Sager and Salva Oria withdrew (3-1 in the first set): they will now face Lucho Capra and Alex Chozas, number 13 in the seedings, while Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2) beat Aris Patiniotis and Facundo Dominguez with a double 6-4 and will now face Agustin Gutierrez and Josete Rico.
Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron (3) also made good debuts, needing a third set to beat 6-2 4-6 6-1 qualified Marc Quilez and Toni Bueno (Chipi Munoz and Javi Garcia in the round of 16), as well as Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (4), with the Superpibes finding Lucas Campagnolo and Javi Leal (14) after their 6-1 6-4 win over José Antonio Diestro and Pol Hernandez Alvarez.
The round of 16 at the Movistar Arena will start at 9 a.m. local time, 3 p.m. CET. The ninth tournament of the Premier Padel circuit season enters its decisive phase.
