Sevilla Premier Padel P2, day 4 Into the semifinals there is the best at La Cartuja
May 3, 2024Padel is loved by everyone, and the full stands at the Estadio de la Cartuja prove it. In two days, however, there were also two special fans following the Sevilla Premier Padel P2: first the Argentinean footballer Lucas Ocampos, who plays for Sevilla, then Isco, who wears the Betis shirt. They enjoyed the ’gods of the pala’, all of them awaiting the decisive weekend of the sixth round of the Premier Padel circuit. In both the men’s and women’s draw, the top four seeds qualified for the semifinals.
MEN No surprises among the men, with Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (1) giving Mike Yanguas and Javi Garrido no chance as happened in the semifinals of the Lotto Brussels Premier P2, dominating the first set 6-1 and confirming 6-2 in the second. In the semifinals, Coello and Tapia will face Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, number 3 in a rematch of the Brussels final. It took them just 53 minutes to inflict a double 6-2 defeat on Maxi Sanchez and Sanyo Gutierrez (8). Also up for grabs will be the second position in the FIP ranking, with Galan (currently number 2) and Tapia (3) separated by just 23 points (10,900 to 10,877), plus those that Ale (245) and Agu (191) lose every week. The semifinal in the bottom half of the draw will feature Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (4), who crushed the dream of Teodoro Zapata and Enrique Goenaga (the only non-seeded pair to reach the quarters) 6-3 6-2, against Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron, who reached their first semi-final as a pair after being eliminated in the quarters in Brussels thanks to a 7-6 6-2 win over Momo Gonzalez and Alex Ruiz (7).
WOMEN No surprises among the women either, with the semifinals being the same as last Saturday in Brussels. At 12 noon, at the Estadio de la Cartuja as was the case at the Gare Maritime, Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez (ahead 6-2 6-0 to Marta Ortega and Veronica Virseda) against Claudia Fernandez and Gemma Triay (who gave up just two games, 6-1 6-1, to Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno), with the world number 1s looking for a revenge. Not before 4 p.m., after Stupaczuk/Di Nenno-Navarro/Lebron, it will be the turn of Tamara Icardo and Alejandra Salazar (who, in two hours and 27 minutes, eliminated 6-4 2-6 6-4 Jessica Castelló and Claudia Jensen) against Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez, who beat 6-4 6-2 Virginia Riera and Sofia Araujo, but risking mainly in the first set.
