Lotto Brussels Premier P2, here are the finals: Coello-Tapia vs Chingotto-Galan, Brea-Gonzalez take on Triay-Fernandez
April 27, 2024Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan in the men’s draw (the same final was played in the P2 in Puerto Cabello); Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez against Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez in the women’s draw. These will be the title deciders at the Lotto Brussels Premier P2 on Sunday, following the semi-finals played today in the Belgian capital.
MEN Second final in two tournaments for Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, the No. 3 seed in Brussels, after their debut in Venezuela: the Argentine and the Spaniard beat Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz (8) 7-6 6-0, who were coming from a great feat against Juan Lebron and Paquito Navarro. Two sets different from each other: in the first, decided by a never-ending tiebreak, Nieto/Sanz failed to take advantage of three set points and, after conceding 12-10, they also suffered from the previous day’s fatigue, losing the second set clearly.
As they did a month ago, Chingotto and Galan will face Coello (number 1 in the FIP ranking) and Tapia (2), who in the re-match of the Ooredoo Qatar Major final against Mike Yanguas (number 12 in the FIP ranking) and Javi Garrido (13) racked up their 18th victory in a row, the 22nd out of 23 matches this season. In Doha, Coello and Tapia gave up just two games to the two Spaniards, who on the other hand put up more resistance this evening and put up a spectacular fight: but in the end they surrendered 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 33 minutes, suffering one break per set.
WOMEN In the first semi-final, Triay/Fernandez redeemed their defeat in the final of the Ooredoo Major Premier Padel, beating the FIP number 1 ranked Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez in a comeback (5-7 6-4 6-4) at the end of a two-and-a-half hour marathon match. The first set, balanced but won by Josemaria/Sanchez, seemed to have put the road downhill for the winners of the P1 in Riyadh and the Major in Doha, but the double break (3-0) in the second set – combined with 20 unforced errors by Paula and Ari, at the end there will be 56 – took to the third Gemma and the young Claudia, who in front of three legends did not tremble. The third set was decided by a break at 5-4, with Triay and Fernandez going to serve at 5-4, ending the match at the third match point.
Comeback win also in the second semi-final, where Brea/Gonzalez replicated the victory they gained in the P2 final in Puerto Cabello against Salazar/Icardo at the end of 2 hours and 36 minutes of ‘battle’. It is the two Spaniards who win the first set, although Brea and Bea are the first to break the opponent. However, Icardo was particularly inspired and she and her playing partner managed to close 6-3 in 45 minutes. In the second set the score always follows the serves and the number 2 seeded couple manages to win it at tie-break, 7-4. It was the turning point of the match, because the deciding set was a monologue from Brea and Bea, as the final 6-0 testifies…
