Six hundred players at the FIP Seniors World Padel Championships in La Nucía (Alicante). Carraro: “You are the ones who have made padel great in the world”
April 14, 2024In La Nucía (Alicante), at the opening ceremony of the FIP Seniors World Padel Championships, players who have made padel history paraded. Yet, the emotion could be read in everyone’s eyes. From Monday, the third edition of the FIP Seniors World Padel Championships will begin on the courts of the Comunitat Valenciana, and the smiles will give way to concentration and the desire to win the world titles for nations and pairs. After theend of the qualifiers, which followed the registration phase with record numbers that led FIP to extend the number of participants in the final phase from 16 to 24, players from all over the world will compete from Monday to Saturday, divided into five categories (+35, +40, +45, +50 and +55).
“Being here for the third edition of the FIP Seniors World Padel Championships is a great emotion, not only for me but for all of us who love this sport. And we will experience this emotion with the 31 participating countries and the more than 600 athletes – said FIP president Luigi Carraro – who give us impressive numbers. Numbers that show the strength and size that padel has reached in the world. Let me say thank you to the whole team of the International Padel Federation, thank you to the Spanish Federation and its president Ramon Morcillo, who once again showed great organisational quality. And I certainly cannot fail to mention and thank Alfonso Monferrer, president of the Comunitat Valenciana Federation: his organisational skills are among the best in the world. I also want to thank the city of La Nucía for its hospitality, the Diputación de Alicante and the Comunitat Valenciana. But above all I want to thank all of you – continued Carraro, speaking to the athletes who were at the ceremony –. I often repeat a concept and that is that young people are the future of our sport, the professionals those who allow padel to be known throughout the world. But you are the ones who have made it great: thanks to you, padel has become one of the most important sports in the world. Good luck to you all!”.
From Monday to Wednesday the group stage will be played; from Thursday to Saturday the knockout stage.
