Cagliari will host the FIP European Padel Championships 2024

Italy will host the XIII edition of the FIP European Padel Championships from July 22th to 28th. Italy is confirmed as strategic for the high-level growth of the sport. The great continental competition organised by the FIP, the International Padel Federation, in collaboration with the FITP, the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, will be played in Sardinia, in Cagliari, in what has become ‘the Island of Sport’ and, in particular, ‘the Island of Padel’, thanks to the great organisational efforts of recent years. Cagliari focused on this discipline from the beginning, among the first in Italy, immediately realising its extraordinary potential. After hosting some international level events – most recently the FIP Platinum, a stage of the CUPRA FIP Tour promoted by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, Department of Tourism, Crafts and Commerce, with the patronage of Cagliari Municipality, last September –, Sardinia is ready to welcome once again the great padel champions and the national teams of the European countries who will compete for the continental title.

In Cagliari we have experienced great padel and public events and we are sure that Italy, a strategic country for the movement, will be a protagonist in the organisation of a European Championships, enhancing a competitive format that we particularly care about: the national team competitions. Special thanks go to FITP, which has consolidated its central role and worked in recent years to achieve great sporting and public results”.

HISTORY The 2024 edition of the FIP European Padel Championships will be staged in Italy for the fourth time since the competition was born. The first one was in 1995 in Lido di Savio, a village in the municipality of Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna – and it was the first ever edition of the European Championships –, followed by Bologna in 2005 and Rome in 2019. In the 12 previous editions, Spain has won the title 10 times in the men’s category and nine times in the women’s. It promises to be a record edition. After all, since 1995 the FIP European Padel Championships has never stopped growing, in terms of the Federations involved, fans and athletes on court. A trend that has seen the number of participating teams gradually increase, with 29 teams taking part in the 2021 edition in Marbella, 16 of which are men’s and 13 women’s.

NUMBERS Data from the FIP Research & Data Analysis Department show that Europe is the continent where most padel is played in the world: there are an estimated 13 to 15 million amateur players. Padel is played in every country on the continent and as many as 36 federations representing as many nations are affiliated with the International Padel Federation. There are more than 12,500 clubs and 42,000 courts where padel can be played. Moreover, in 2023, 73% of the official tournaments at international level organised by the FIP took place in Europe and, in the world ranking, 57% of men (around 3,400) and 72% of women (1,200) are European. In this context, Italy is confirmed as central in the growth of the movement, in terms of players, facilities and events. That is why from 22 to 28 July, in Cagliari, the show will be guaranteed.
