‘Tolito’ Aguirre flies to the final

He is registered as Leonel Daniel Aguirre. But in padel everyone knows him as ‘Tolito’. The Argentinean, resident in Mexico, although he entered the draw not as seeded, will play the final of the FIP PLATINUM at Club Libanés, paired with Cristian German Gutierrez. Between Tolito and the title, in the late European afternoon (when it will be 12 p.m. in Mexico), the Spaniards Francisco Guerrero and Teodoro Zapata, number 8 on the draw. Aguirre and Gutierrez, in the semifinals, defeated 6-4 5-7 6-4 the Spaniards Ignacio Villariño and Pablo Lijó, the number 2 seed. The other semifinal was less balanced, with Guerrero and Zapata giving up only five games (6-2 6-3) to Denis Perino and Jorge Ruiz, the leaders of the entry list of the second FIP PLATINUM of the CUPRA FIP Tour 2023.

Those who don’t know ‘Tolito’ Aguirre can search on YouTube and find the shots that have made him one of the most spectacular players in the world. “I am very happy to have made it to the final and to have done it with a friend like ‘Cri’ – the words of Aguirre, interviewed after the semifinal in the live streaming available on the FIP YouTube channel –. Thanks to my family and friends who came here to cheer me on”. The stands of the Centro Libanés were filled in this FIP PLATINUM, an organisational as well as technical success despite the bad weather that has hit Mexico in recent weeks. Tonight the grand final.
