Diestro-Leal, a victory to challenge Stupa-Di Nenno

From the red of the clay to the blue of the padel courts. Roland Garros welcomed the Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel, which today saw the first players in the main draw take to the courts. While waiting for the big names, who are already on their way to Paris in these hours, the pairings for the second round are beginning to be defined. Beating compatriots Miguel Angel Solbes and Miguel Gonzalez 6-3 6-2, José Antonio Diestro and Javier Leal earned the pairing against number 2 seed Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno. The Paris crowd then tried to push French wild cards Jerome Inzerillo and Adrien Maigret, but they were defeated in the third-set tiebreak by Ruben Rivera and Adria Mercadal.

Other French wild cards were also eliminated: Jeremy Scatena and Brazilian Francisco Gomes beaten 6-3 6-3 by Sergio Icardo and Jesus Moya, Bastien Blanque and Dylan Guichard eliminated 6-3 6-1 by Teodoro Zapata and Anton Sans. In the evening, Ferran Insa Sotillo and Thomas Leygue were also out, against Javier Valdes (Chile) and José David Sanchez (Spain).

Same fate, in the women’s, for Wendy Barsotti and Elodie Invernon (6-3 6-3 by Martina Fassio and Maria Eulalia Rodriguez Abajo). Beating qualifiers Carla Castillo Velarde and Carmen Garcia Pardo, on the other hand, Spain’s Marta Borrero and Russia’s (but living in Spain) Ksenia Sharifova gave themselves a challenge to the number 1 on the scoreboard, Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez.

The same goes for Noemi Aguilar Carrillo and Letizia Maria Manquillo Alarda, who after winning their first-round match will face Marta Ortega and Gemma Triay.
