Day 2, more Argentines to the 2nd round The stars debuts on Wednesday
August 2, 2023At the Aconcagua Arena in Mendoza more good news for Argentinian padel. On the day 2 of the P1 Premier, wild cards Juan Ignacio De Pascual (class of 2004) and Gonzalo Gabriel Alfonso defeated 7-5 6-1 Miguel Lamperti and Denis Perino, to the second round, as did Maxi Sanchez Blasco and Santiago Rolla (coming from the qualifiers), whose 6-4 4-6 6-3 win over Martin Andornino and Juan Restivo earned them a match against Juan Lebron and Ale Galan, the top seed in the draw. Federico Mouriño and Ignacio Piotto also did well, 6-1 7-5 to Ricardo Martinez Sanchez and Aitor Garcia Bassas.
With the first round complete, today in Mendoza is the big day for the debut of the 16 seeds. The games will be played on three courts in the arena, with the schedule kicking off at 10am local time (3pm in Italy) and all the world’s best players on court within a few hours. On the Centre Court, after Ruiz/Tello (6)-Mouriño/Piotto, Fede Chingotto and Paquito Navarro (4) will face Cristian German Gutierrez and Mario Huete Hernandez. Then Galan and Lebron (1), called upon to react after the defeats in Rome and Madrid, against Blasco and Rolla, followed by the champions of the last two Premier, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (3), who will play against the Argentine Alex Chozas and the Spaniard Alvaro Cepero.
The fifth scheduled match is between Yanguas/Belasteguin (5) and qualifiers Leygue/Insa Sotillo, with home idols Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (2) closing out a magical Wednesday against Argentine wild cards Francisco Britos and Mauricio Alejandro Rivero. Seeded players number 7 to 11 (including Gonzalez/Gutierrez and Sanchez/Capra, semi-finalists in Madrid) will debut on court 2, while those 12 to 16 will play on court 3, in a day not to be missed by any padel fan.
