No limits for Coello e Tapia: after Rome, another triumph in Madrid Premier P1
July 23, 2023After Rome, here comes Madrid. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia grant an encore and, in the “replay” of the Foro Italico final, beat again Federico Chingotto and Paquito Navarro conquering also the Madrid Premier P1. The No. 4 seeded pair got the better of their rivals 7-5, 6-2 confirming their moment of grace – they won eleven tournaments in 2023, in addition to a final – and their extraordinary form.
At the Madrid Arena, it is Chingotto and Navarro who indeed get off to the best start, breaking their rivals in the fifth game. It’s a wake-up call that Coello and Tapia pick up: Rome champions immediately recover the break gap – in a game in which Chingotto asked for medical time out after a fall on the edge of the court in an attempt to play a ball sent out by Coello – and then, when they lead 6-5, they break again their opponents, winning the first set.
In the second set, the No. 4 seeded pair gets off to a great start and immediately gain the break against Chingotto and Navarro, taking first a 3-0 and then a 5-2 lead. Coello and Tapia manage to save four break-points and close 6-2, leaving the crumbs to Chingotto and Navarro in the second set and graduating champions in Madrid after also triumphing at the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel. An overwhelming power, for now, absolute.
“We expressed ourselves on a good level, let me congratulate Arturo“, Tapia‘s post-final words, “We are a good pair, we fight together, we want to win and it is never easy to play against Chingotto and Navarro. And let me wish my sister Valentina a happy birthday, it’s her birthday today and we gave her a great gift by winning. She did it to me by choosing to spend this day watching my padel“. Then it’s Coello‘s turn: “Thank you for staying here late. I am the one to thank Agustin: if I do something wrong, he is always there. Today I was not at the level of the others on the court but he always supprted me, for me he is the number 1“.
