The top four seeds still running for the title
July 21, 2023Them again, one week later. Playing for the P1 Premier in Madrid will be the top four seeds in the draw, but also the same semi-finalists as in Rome. Only the order of tomorrow’s match pairings changes. On the top half Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria against the ‘atomikas gemelas’ Sanchez Alayeto; on the bottom, Delfina Brea and Bea Gonzalez against Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega. The four quarter-finals played on Madrid’s ‘Pista Central’ had no history: none of the top four seeded pairs gave up a set to their opponents. Only three games (6-3 6-0) for Sofía Araújo and Jessica Castelló, with the twins then defeated 6-2 6-4 Carmen Goenaga and Lucia Martinez.
It was the same script for the other two matches, with Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega – aiming for their second success in two Premier after Rome – eliminating 6-3 6-1 Claudia Jensen and Veronica Virseda and, finally, Brea/Gonzalez overcoming 6-0 6-2 Aranzazu Ozoro and Lucia Sainz. The semifinals schedule will start at 1 p.m. with Sanchez/Josemaria against the Sanchez Alayeto twins; the third match on the Centre Court, after the first men’s semifinal, will be among Brea/Gonzalez and Triay/Ortega.
