Women’s draw day 2: Brea-Gonzalez and Alayeto twins book their place in Round of 16
July 18, 2023Predictions fulfilled on Day 2 of the Madrid Premier Padel P1 women’s draw, underway in the Spanish capital. Two of the pairs who were semi-finalists last week in Rome won in a convincing way in their opener and booked their place for the Round of 16 with authority.
Alayeto twins, Maria Pilar and Maria Jose, were up against two tricky opponents as Alix Collombon and Victoria Iglesias Segador, but the Spaniards – number 4 seeded in the draw – won 7-5 , 6-3. Win in straight sets also for Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez: number 3 seeded players, in just over an hour of play, overcame Sandra Bellaver and Arantxa Soriano, beaten 6-3, 6-2. Osoro and Sainz, number 5 in the draw, gave up six games to De Villa and Prieto, defeated 6-2, 6-4; Castello and Araujo (7), came from behind to prevail 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 against Nogueira and Merino Saez. Three set wins also for Martin/Villalba and Sanchez/Bidahorria, while Navarro/Guinart and Talavan/Rodriguez won in two sets.
On Wednesday, at 10 a.m., Josemaria-Sanchez, number 1 seeded players and finalists at the Roman Major, will open the schedule on the Center Court: the Spaniards will face their compatriots Perez and Ruiz. The match will be followed by the debut of the winning pair in Rome, Triay-Ortega: it will also be a Spanish derby for them against Arruabarrena and Pujals.
