Coello e Tapia new kings of Rome 10,000 fans crown Arturo and Agustin

Ten thousand fans on the Foro Italico Centre Court, all for the four leading actors of a great final. The BNL Italy Major Premier Padel was won by Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who beated 7-5 7-6 Federico Chingotto and Paquito Navarro. If for Coello this is the second title in Premier Padel after last year’s in Monterrey (paired with Fernando Belasteguin), Tapia writes his name in the roll of honor for the first time. Paquito, who nonetheless remains an idol of the Rome fans, lost his second final in a row at Foro, after the one a year ago – paired with Di Nenno – against Lebron and Galan. The first and only break of the first set came in the 12th game, with Coello and Tapia stealing serve to their opponents.

Chingotto and Navarro got off to a better start in the second set and immediately broke their opponents’ serve, but Tapia and Coello clawed back the break in the eighth game thanks to an off-the-cuff backhand volley by Navarro. The score followed the serves until the tie-break, where Paquito invoked the audience’s help to be “on fire” again, as the Gala hit that has now become his official song says. However, Coello and Tapia played a sumptuous tie-break and closed it with a resounding 7-2, unleashing their final joy.

It’s incredible to play with such a crowd, I’m very happy because it’s my first success in Premier Padel and it came here in Rome“, Tapia‘s words, “It’s an incredible setting, I’m very excited and I thank Arturo, it’s very easy to play with him. Congratulations also to Chingotto and Paquito, they are very difficult opponents to face. Greetings to the people and…thank you Roma, we are champions!”.

It’s incredible to have won here, in this setting of the Foro Italico in Rome: thank you for the organization, I couldn’t be happier“, the giant Coello‘s words on the court, “I also want to make wishes to my girlfriend, in a few minutes she’ll celebrate her birthday. Thank you really to everyone!“.

The final scene, however, still goes to Paquito Navarro, undisputed idol of Rome and Foro Italico. He promised to return next year to try to win the tournament – he has lost the last two finals – proclaimed his love for the Eternal City and stared dancing together with the audience to the notes of “Freed from desire”. An unforgettable tournament, for the first time in a combined format…an unforgettable week!.
