Semi-finals day at the Foro Italico Who will take the throne of Lebron and Galan?
July 15, 2023Without the kings ofthe 2022 edition, the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel is without trophy holders. Today, the semi-finals will be played at the Foro Italico, with the other two finalists from a year ago both on the court, but in different matches. The second match of the afternoon session starting at 4 p.m. will see Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (4) take the court against Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (2). Different paths for the two pairs: Coello/Tapia reach the semifinals without having lost a set, while Stupa/Di Nenno have been the highlanders of this tournament, closing their three matches in the third, and always coming back from a set down.
The second match of the evening session starting at 7pm will feature last year’s other losing finalist, Paquito Navarro, who was paired with Di Nenno in 2022 and was defeated out to Lebron and Galan. No rematch, as Navarro and Fede Chingotto (3) will face Mike Yanguas and Fernando Belasteguin (6) who were able to give up only four games to the world number ones.
In the women’s semifinals schedule, however, there are the top four pairs on the draw. At 4 p.m., the sixth day of competition at the Foro Italico opens with the Sanchez Alayeto twins facing Gemma Triay and Maria Ortega (a match already played last week in Valencia); the first of the two evening matches will face Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria – forced yesterday into the third set by Virseda/Jensen – and Brea/Gonzalez, who have yet to lose a set since the start of the tournament.
