Eli Amatrian and Sofia Saiz gain the first victory in the women’s draw

History never stops to be made at Foro Italico. Elisabet Amatrian Armas and Sofia Saiz Vallejo beated their Spanish compatriots Beatriz Caldera Sanchez and Marta Barrera De La Fuente in two sets (6-1, 6-4), becoming the first pair to win a match in the women’s draw – excluding qualifications – of the Premier Padel tour. A great satisfaction, that achieved on one of the courts set up on the ‘Nicola Pietrangeli‘, for a pair that combines experience and freshness: 39-year-old Eli Amatrian, a ‘fighter’ who tried padel when she was studying to become a teacher and then never left it, just 20-year-old Sofia Saiz.

In the other matches f the women’s draw in the morning session, two-set wins for the pairs Marta Caparros Maldonado/Lea Godallier and Carlotta Casali/Julia Polo Bautista, while Lorena Alonso/Lourdes Pascual Dominguez and Alejandra Alonso De Villa/Andrea Ustero Prieto needed three sets to get through the first round. Casali, a 30-year-old born in Rome who has been living in Spain for seven years, became the first Italian woman to win a match in the main draw of a Premier Padel tournament.

 

In the men’s draw, Maximiliano Sanchez/Luciano Capra, Javier Valdes/Jose David Sanchez and Javier Martinez/Jorge Ruiz advanced.
