Setubal, Ferran Diaz makes history: under 15 years old and the youngest winner of a CUPRA FIP Tour tournament
April 15, 2025
Paula Ferran Diaz has made history in the CUPRA FIP Tour. The Spanish player, born in 2010, won the FIP Bronze in Setúbal together with Clarinha Santos, becoming the youngest ever to win a tournament on the international circuit, just after turning fifteen. She broke the record previously held by Aaron Garcia (born on April 1, 2009), who had won the FIP Promotion in La Nucía in November 2024. It’s an important victory for the pair, who climbed many spots in the FIP ranking, becoming world number 183 and 139 respectively. The key win came against Ares Llobera and Maite Cano, with a score of 6-2, 7-6, just a week after reaching the quarterfinals at the FIP Silver in Caltanissetta.
“It feels great to be champions in Setubal. After 4 tough matches, we won by playing very solidly in each one and suffering a bit. Now we made it, and I’m really happy to get my first title in the professional circuit. I thank my parents for making all this easier and letting me enjoy what I love most. Now we keep working hard for the future,” said Paula Ferran Diaz after winning the final.
In the men’s draw, the Spanish pair Pablo Castillo and Candido Jorge Alfaro won the title, ranked 126 and 141 in the FIP ranking, after losing the final at the FIP Bronze in Kaunas in March. Their key win came in the final, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, against Oliveira-Ruiz.
