Puebla, day 2. Medina and Collombon advance in the tournament…of the number 1s

The FIP Platinum in Puebla (Mexico) is entering its decisive phase. The quarter-finals of the first Platinum tournament of the season (with 300 points in the FIP ranking for the winning pairs) are scheduled for today, with 13 players respectively number 1 in their own countries in the FIP ranking, showing how the highlights of the CUPRA FIP Tour are aspired by athletes from all over the world.
Among them, British Christian Medina Murphy – number 121 in the FIP ranking – continues his journey in the men’s draw: paired with Spanish Alberto Garcia as the number 4 seed, Medina has reached the quarter-finals, which will see him play against Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso (6), coming from the P2 final in Gijon. The other national No. 1s registered for the FIP Platinum in Puebla were Thijs Roper (Netherlands), Diego Arredondo (Mexico), Mauricio Echazu (Peru) and Philip Orloff (Switzerland), the last two on court in the qualifying round.
Among the women, French number 1 (and number 30 in the FIP ranking) Alix Collombon, paired with Araceli Martinez, will return to the court; the number 6 seed in the women’s draw will face the number 3, Ale Alonso and Andrea Ustero, for a place in the semifinals. But the FIP Platinum in Puebla also hosted the number 1s from Russia (Ksenia Sharifova), Italy (Carolina Orsi), Brazil (Manuela Schuck), Sweden (Carolina Navarro), United States (Brittany Dubins) and Colombia (Laura Daniela Arciniegas).
