Puebla, day 1. Calvo-Trillas, dream victory over legend Lamperti

Alejandro Calvo and Albert Trillas probably grew up with the myth of Miguel Lamperti. The two young Spaniards found the Argentinean legend on the other side of the net in the first round of the FIP Platinum in Puebla (Mexico) and beat him: Calvo and Trillas, very excited at the end of the match, won with a score of 6-3 3-6 7-6, qualifying for the round of 16 scheduled for today. An extraordinary victory, that of numbers 280 and 248 in the FIP ranking against Lamperti and compatriot Agustin Torre, but not the only surprise of the day; also in the men’s draw, Mexicans José Angel Montoya and Juan Pablo Castillo defeated number 3 seed Ivan Ramirez and Diego Arredondo 7-6 6-4. Good debuts for Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso, coming from the final in the P2 in Gijon: 6-0 6-4 to Carballo/Montaño.

In the women’s draw, seven of the eight seeds qualified for the second round: the surprise came from Sofia Saiz and Marina Lobo’s victory over the number 7 seeded pair of Marta Talavan and Ksenia Sharifova, defeated 6-3 3-6 6-3.
