Day 5. Ortega-Araujo, what a feat! Final versus Brea-Triay
March 16, 2025
A two-and-a-half hour battle rewarded Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo. Playing for the title in the Cancun Premier Padel P2 will be ‘la Doctora’ and the Portuguese, who eliminated FIP number 1 Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez in three sets (6-2 4-6 6-4). First final on the Qatar Premier Padel Airways Tour 2025 for the number 3 seed, already winners of two P2 titles last year, in Genova and NewGiza. While for Ortega and Araujo it would be their first trophy of the year, Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay are going for their second in a row after the P2 in Gijon. In the first of the two semifinals of the women’s draw, the number 2 seed gave up only four games (6-2 6-2) to Aranzazu Osoro and Jessica Castelló. The women’s final will start at 17.30 local time, 23.30 CET.
MEN The final of the men’s draw starting not before 7 p.m. Mexican time will instead see three out of four Argentine players on the court, with Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso continuing their great run. This is the fourth final in a row for ‘The Magicians’ after those of FIP Gold in Paredes, P2 in Gijon and FIP Platinum in Puebla. Aguirre and Alfonso put an end to the unforgettable week of Simon Vasquez and Adam Axelsson (6-1 6-4), and so did main draw number 1s Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk, who overcame Marc Sintes and Nacho Moragues 6-1 6-2 in 48 minutes. And at the end of the match there was even room for a marriage proposal from a fan present at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Center, with the ring contained inside a ball.
