Day 4. The Magicians vs NextGen, the ‘premiere’ of Paula-Ari vs Gemma-Delfi and another sold-out

If in Riyadh it was Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez who reached the final, this time it is the turn of their former teammates. In Gijon, it will be time for Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, who had surrendered to Gonzalez and Fernandez in Arabia. On the other side of the net, in a Palacio de Deportes de la Guía ‘Presidente Adolfo Suárez’ already sold out for today’s semifinals, will be world number 1 Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, who will instead hunt for their second title of the season, after the one they won in Riyadh. In the first of the two semifinals, Delfi and Gemma defeated 6-1 6-3 Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo (4) in one hour and 37 minutes. In the second, however, the tournament ended for Ale Alonso and Andrea Ustero, who tried to keep up the pace of the FIP ranking leaders, who had dominated (6-1) the first set in the second set (6-4).

MEN If Josemaria, Sanchez, Triay and Brea are used to playing finals in the Premier Padel circuit, for the four protagonists of the men’s final (starting not before 4 p.m., with the women’s final starting at 12) it will be a first time. Competing for the second tournament of the season will be two youngsters like Diego Garcia (2006, number 222 in the FIP ranking) and Francisco ‘Curro’ Cabeza (2007, number 176) and the Argentines Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso, ‘The Magicians’. Garcia and Cabeza, in the all-NextGen semifinals, overcame two other youngsters Facundo Dehnike from Paraguay and Manuel Aragon from Spain with a double 6-4. Aguirre and Alfonso, on the other hand, will be chasing a second consecutive title after the one in the FIP Gold in Paredes (Portugal) after overcoming number 1 seed Simone Cremona and Jaume Romera with a score of 6-4 7-6 (and after a sensational comeback from 0-5 in the second set).
