Day 3, Sintes-Moragues, four months like Coello and Tapia
March 14, 2025
Only Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia have won as much as Marc Sintes and Nacho Moragues since November. If the number 1-ranked FIP players dominated the Qatar Airways Premier Padel circuit, Sintes and Moragues – number 153 and number 147 in the rankings respectively – brought home five CUPRA FIP Tour titles. They had ended 2024 with trophies in the FIP Star in Kaunas (Lithuania) and the FIP Rise in Oeiras (Portugal) and Perugia (Italy), they started 2025 by winning the FIP Bronze in La Cala (Spain) and the FIP Silver in Ponta Delgada (Portugal), but youngsters Marc (born 2006) and Nacho (2005) don’t want to stop: they are the only non-ranked pair to have reached the quarter-finals of the Cancun Premier Padel P2. After beating number 4 seeded Gustavo Nunes and Miguel Angel Solbes 6-4 7-6, they will face Alberto Garcia and Christian Medina Murphy. The number 1 on the draw, Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebron, also qualified for the quarters with a 6-1 6-0 win over Gayone/Guevara, while both number 2 (‘Curro’ Cabeza and David Garcia) and number 3 (Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso) had to concede a set before winning their respective matches.
WOMEN In the women’s draw, the eight seeds qualified for the quarter-finals (starting at 16.30 local time, 22.30 CET). Alix Collombon and Araceli Martinez, however, twice came within one point of eliminating Ale Alonso and Andrea Ustero, last Saturday’s winners of the FIP Platinum in Puebla. The two Spaniards saved match points, then won the match in the third set, and today they will face Delfi Brea (with whom Ustero reached the final of the last Major in Paris) and Gemma Triay.
