Brea-Triay make the double. Lebron and Stupa also on the throne. Carraro: “Mexico is one of the leading countries in our world”

The Cancun Premier Padel P2 ended with Delfi Brea, Gemma Triay, Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk on the throne, and with the Rafa Nadal Tennis Center fans enjoying the last chapter of a great week. A proof of how Mexico is among the countries where padel is most loved. “I had been told very positive things about this tournament, but once I arrived here, I was impressed – said the president of the International Padel Federation, Luigi Carraro –. It’s a fantastic place, with a unique atmosphere that is perfect for padel. Mexico has played a main role in the transformation of this sport, which today is recognised by everyone as a global phenomenon. Since the first year, this great country has been home to one of the four Premier Padel majors, and it is fitting, because padel was born right here. In the first year the tournament was held in Monterrey, then we moved to Acapulco with the Major and now there is also the P2 in Cancun. We can truly define Mexico as one of the leading countries in our world. I would therefore like to congratulate and thank the Mexican Padel Federation and its president Jorge Mañe, as well as the entire sports structure, which is doing an extraordinary job”.

WOMEN The women’s final was won by Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, repeating the title in the P2 in Gijon. Yet it was Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo, the number 3 seed on the draw, who had the better start with a 3-1 lead in the first set. Then, however, one of the new 2025 pairs began to dominate the game, closing 6-3 6-1 in one hour and 17 minutes. “Thank you for filling the stands, we felt the affection of Cancun – Delfi said –. We played a great match and a great week, and for that we also thank our team”. For both Delfi and Gemma, with different teammates, this is the ninth title in the Premier Padel circuit: “A dream week – commented the Spaniard –, which we hope to repeat in the coming years”.

MEN But also in Miami, where Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebron will arrive after their first title as a pair. The No. 1 players in the men’s draw at the Cancun Premier Padel P2 beat Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso 6-2 6-3, in a final that was already 5-0 in the first set, with the two defeated players nonetheless managing to make a leap forward in the rankings: Alfonso gained 12 positions and climbed to No. 35, while Tolito gained 13 positions to No. 40. “There is so much happiness for this title – Stupaczuk said –. How are we going to celebrate? With a romantic dinner”. “My partner is jealous – Lebron’s joking reply –. I congratulate Franco, but I also congratulate Tolito and Gonzalo, for what they are doing in these weeks”. A tour de force, for Aguirre and Alfonso, which will continue with a direct flight to Miami where they will be the number 1 seed in the qualifying draw for the first P1 in the history of Premier Padel in the United States.
