Coello-Tapia start with a title Number 1s confirm themselves, Lebron and Stupa will try again
February 17, 2025
The 2025 Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour season starts again in the name of Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia. The FIP number 1s, winners of 14 titles in 2024 but not of the Barcelona Finals, open the new season with one of the trophies they missed last year. The Riyadh Season P1 belongs to Arturito and Agus, thanks to a 6-3 5-7 6-3 win over Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk, with ‘el Lobo’ arriving at this final as defending champion. It was a beautiful match, which confirmed Coello and Tapia as the pair to beat again this year, but which brings Lebron and Stupa into the group of players who will try to break their dominance throughout 2025 and around the world.
After an opening break that earned Coello and Tapia victory in the first set, in the second it was Lebron – after missing a volley on the first set point – who took the final to the third set with a backhand X3. The break in the opening of the deciding set, however, came with an unreal point by Tapia, which was followed by a masterpiece by Coello that earned the first match point, with the match then closed by a volley by Arturito. “I’m very happy to have won the first title here in Riyadh – the Spanish said –. Thanks to everyone who supported us and congratulations to Agustin, who was great”. “It was an incredible week – continued Tapia –, and I want to thank not only our families and our team but also the organisation, which worked during this difficult week because of the rain to put us players in the best conditions”.
The title, in the women’s tournament, instead went to Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, due to the forfait in the final of Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez.
