Coello and Tapia invincible. Triay and Fernandez also on the throne

If that of Coello and Tapia, now in their 40th consecutive victory, is an undisputed domination, for Triay and Fernandez it’s the first Major won as a pair, which if for the young Spanish is the first of her career, for Gemma it is the second after Rome 2023. Title number 13 in 2024 (the eighth in a row) for Coello and Tapia, fifth for Triay and Fernandez, with the Premier Padel circuit now moving back to Europe for the last P1, the one in Milano, before the Finals in Barcelona (19-22 December).
MEN Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas, who for the second time in a row after the P1 in Kuwait City denied the final to Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, tried their best, winning the first set 6-4 thanks to a break in the opening game of a men’s final that favoured the number 4 seed. As the games went by, however, Coello and Tapia regained their great padel, and between the second and third sets Stupa and Yanguas managed to bring home a total of just three games, with the match ending 4-6 6-1 6-2 in one hour and 41 minutes. “An unforgettable week – the comment of Tapia, who with the access to the semifinals of the Major in Acapulco had, together with Coello, the certainty of closing 2024 at the top of the FIP ranking –. For Coello, this is the second Major won in Mexico after the one in 2022 paired with Fernando Belasteguin: “Mexico is a special country for me. WOMEN The women’s final that crowned Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez lasted three sets, but almost an hour longer (2 hours and 38 minutes), in their first majors won together after Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez triumphed in Doha, Rome and Paris. In Acapulco, against Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo, it ended 6-7 6-1 6-4, with Gemma and Claudia having started the match with a break, before Marta and Sofia’s comeback. The second set was dominated by the number 2 seed, while the third set was a succession of breaks until the decisive one in the ninth game that sent Triay and Fernandez to serve for the match, closed with a game to 0 and a smash by Claudia, the youngest champion in a Major, while Triay becomes the first to win two Majors with two different partners since Rome 2023 won with Ortega.’“I am very happy with my first Major – Claudia‘s emotions -.
