Day 5: Coello and Tapia, you are the kings of the FIP ranking! Today the semifinals

All that was missing was the arithmetic certainty, and it arrived in Acapulco. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, the absolute dominators of the 2024 Premier Padel circuit, will end the year at the top of the FIP ranking. Twelve titles in the season (Doha, Acapulco P1, Puerto Cabello, Asuncion, Santiago and then, consecutively, Malaga, Madrid, Rotterdam, Valladolid, Paris, Dubai, Kuwait City), 38 matches won in a row since their defeat in the P2 final in Genova against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan. Since July 7th, almost five months ago, no one has been able to beat Coello and Tapia, who have the chance to extend the series again. With their 6-4 6-3 win over Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, Arturo and Agus gained access to the semifinals of the Premier Padel GNP Mexico Major, where they will face Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron, the number 3 seed, and victorious with a 6-3 double over Momo Gonzalez and Edu Alonso. In the other semi-final, the number 2 and 4 seeds will compete: Chingotto and Galan, winners of five titles and the only pair able at least until mid-season to keep up with Coello and Tapia – who, however, have changed gear since September – gave up only three games to José Jimenez and Pincho Fernandez (6-2 6-1) and will be able to play a rematch of the Kuwait City semi-final against Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas, who eliminated Javi Garcia and Javier Barahona 7-5 6-4 in an hour and 47 minutes.

WOMEN Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, who had secured top spot in the FIP rankings at least until the end of the season with their P1 victory in Kuwait City, came back from a one-set deficit to eliminate Aranzazu Osoro and Veronica Virseda 2-6 6-2 6-2. They will now face Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo (4), who finished 6-2 6-0 in their match against Ale Salazar and Jessica Castelló (5). At the bottom half, however, Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez (2) with a 7-5 6-1 win over Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen earned their semi-final match against Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez (3), who beat Alix Collombon and Araceli Martinez 6-2 6-2.

This will be the match that will open the semifinal programme at 4.30 p.m. local time (11.30 p.m. CET).
