Day 1: The Deus brothers take the Portuguese derby. The gift is ‘Chingalan’

In Doha, ten days ago, Nuno, Miguel Deus and Pedro Araujo were celebrating a historic bronze medal with the Portuguese national team at the FIP World Padel Championships. The draw for the Kuwait City P1 Premier Padel gave the brothers and Araujo, paired with Victor Mena, a derby between qualified pairs: the Deus brothers won 6-4 6-2, giving them a dream second round match against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, the number 2 seed and coming from the Dubai final lost to Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia. The number 1 on the draw know their opponents: they will be Emilio Sanchez Chamero and Facundo Dominguez, thanks to a 6-0 6-2 victory over wild cards Javier Navarro Perez and Abdulaziz Redha. Juanlu Esbri and Xisco Gil will take on Martin Di Nenno and Juan Lebron (3), with Tuesday seeing the debut of eight of the 16 seeded players on the draw: the highest on the entry list is number eight, with Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini opposing Aris Patiniotis and Jesus Moya.

 

WOMEN After the end of the qualifying draw, the women’s main draw matches will also begin on Tuesday. Seeds five to eight make their debut, with Ale Salazar and Jessica Castelló opening the schedule on centre court at 12 p.m. local time (10 a.m. CET) against Sofia Saiz and Marina Lobo. Also on the court are Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno (6), Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen (7) and Veronica Virseda and Aranzazu Osoro (8), while waiting for the top four seeded pairs to make their debut on Wednesday.
