Coello-Tapia, six wins in a row. Brea-Gonzalez, six months later
November 10, 2024In Dubai it is the day of ‘six’. Six wins in the last six tournaments of the Premier Padel circuit for Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, winners of the men’s draw. But six is also six months since the last triumph of Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez, who became champions in the women’s tournament by winning the first P1 after four P2s in Puerto Cabello, Bruxelles, Sevilla and Asuncion. Nothing to do, once again, for Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, knocked out for the sixth consecutive final; among the women, on the other hand, Ale Alonso and Andrea Ustero‘s fantastic week ended one step away from glory.
MEN In front of more than 5,000 fans, including UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, the men’s final confirmed the dominance of Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, winners of the eleventh title of their incredible season. In the final, the top two players in the FIP ranking overcame Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan for the ninth time in 14 previous matches (the sixth consecutive time), defeated 6-4 6-3 in one hour and 12 minutes. Two breaks were decisive, one in each set, both in the fifth game, with Galan also having to deal with a knee problem in the second set. For Coello and Tapia, however, it was 30 consecutive wins. “We close another incredible week – Tapia’s words –. The team is showing great unity: it’s thanks to this that we are achieving results. Arturo is like a brother: we understand each other, but without the work of everyone, none of this would be possible”. “I’m happy to win here in Dubai – added Coello –. First of all I hope it’s not a serious injury for Ale Galan. We had another great tournament, fighting on every ball. I send a big greeting to my family and congratulations to my brother, who won his first tournament”. Rodrigo Coello won the FIP Gold in Potosí.
WOMEN Before Coello and Tapia’s title came the fifth of the season for Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez, who returned to Dubai to play together after Bea’s injuries. Six months after their last triumph in Asuncion, the Argentine and the Spanish lifted a trophy again, something that happened four times in a row between April and May. Nothing to do for Ale Alonso (in her first career final on the Premier Padel circuit) and Andrea Ustero, who had played the final with Brea in the Paris Major. It ended 6-2 6-3 in one hour and eight minutes, a match that the number three seed on the draw led from start to finish, with the young Spanish recovering a break down in the first set, only to concede her service game again, and the same happened in the sixth game of the second set. “For me it is a great reward after such a bad period – Bea Gonzalez commented –. I congratulate Ale and Andrea for this tournament, but I’m really happy”. For Brea, on the other hand, the return with Bea after the experience with Ustero and Sainz coincided with a title: “It was a tough match, but we managed to win it – explained Delfi –. Thanks to everyone who came here to see us, it was a great tournament, but to go away with a title gives us great emotions”.
From Dubai, Premier Padel circuit move on to Kuwait City for another P1 starting on Monday: the challenge continues.
