Women’s day 3. Here are the top eight: quarter-finals on Thursday

The day 3 of the FIP World Padel Championships was the decisive one for the quarter-finals. In Doha, here are the names of the ‘magnificent eight’ who will play for the title in the knockout phase from Thursday, with the third and fourth-placed teams in the four groups playing instead to make up the rankings from 9th to 16th place. Spain finished Group A in first place thanks to a 3-0 win over Germany (wins by Fernandez/Castelló, Salazar/Sanchez and Ortega/Gonzalez) and in the quarters will take on Sweden, defeated 2-1 by Italy in the direct clash for first place in Group C.

A direct clash won by Italy in a comeback thanks to the victories of Stellato/Casali and Marchetti/Pappacena, after the 7-5 6-0 with which Carolina Navarro and Amanda Girdo had opened the tie. For Italy, in the quarterfinals, there is Brazil, who against Chile (3-0, with Abbud de Barros/Gomes, Schuck/Cirne and Abarzua/Menna Barreto) achieved their second victory after the one against Germany.

In Group B, on the other hand, Argentina finished in first place thanks to a 3-0 win over Portugal, who still qualified as runners-up: the Albiceleste took home the two points without losing a set with Brea/Jensen, Osoro/Bidahorria and Valenzuela/Riera. On Thursday, in the quarter-finals, Argentina will take on the Netherlands, second in Group D thanks to a 3-0 win over Denmark signed by Betz/Jemmes, Koek/Weterings and Segou Jonker/Groenveld.

The other quarter-final will instead be between France, first in Group D (three wins out of three, the last one a 3-0 win over Belgium with the success in two sets by Collombon/Ginier Barbier and Pothier/Godallier and the one in three by Touly/Sireix) and Portugal, who were still qualified with four points before today’s defeat against Argentina.
