Paula and Ari, Arturo and Agus: they win again at Roland Garros

One year later, the prize-giving photo on the Philippe Chatrier has the same protagonists. Paula Josemaria and Ari SanchezArturo Coello and Agustin Tapia: in the third Major of the season, the Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel, the title went to the number 1 seed, who had already triumphed at Roland Garros in 2023. Two finals that thrilled the 13,000 fans present in Paris, where Josemaria and Sanchez celebrated their eighth title of the season; for Coello and Tapia, however, it was their tenth, the fifth in the last five tournaments played.

MEN The one against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, which ended 6-2 6-1, lasted only 56 minutes, in which Coello and Tapia once again dominated, as has been happening for some weeks now. The ‘Chingalan’ suffered the first break at 3-1 in the first set, which was then repeated at the end of the set due to an error by Galan. In the second set, however, the number 2 seeds only managed to avoid a 6-0 break, with Coello and Tapia thus securing their 25th consecutive victory and the biggest against Chingotto and Galan in the previous 13, in a challenge that now sees ‘Arturito’ and ‘Agus’ ahead 8-5. “A magical week, lived as a team both on and off the court – Tapia said –. We dreamed of a week like this, and we hope to live many more”“I’m very happy, all this is incredible – Coello added –. Agus is holding an extraordinary level: he is not only a teammate, but he is like a brother. I admire him, I respect him, and I always play at my best just to be at his level”.

WOMEN If, before the men’s final, the Paris crowd had bid farewell to Fernando Belasteguin, in his last year as a professional player, the women’s final between Josemaria/Sanchez and Delfi Brea and Andrea Ustero (4) was a match with two faces. Balanced in the first set, one-sided in the second. In the decisive phase of the first set, three consecutive breaks, two for Josemaria and Sanchez, who in the second set showed their superiority, winning their third Major out of three in 2024 after Doha and Rome and launching themselves towards the poker to be secured in the last Major of the season, the one scheduled in Acapulco at the end of November. There remains, however, the record for the youngest finalist on the Premier Padel circuit for Ustero. “It’s incredible to have repeated ourselves in a country where padel is growing so much – explained Ari Sanchez –. We are very happy for a special victory, now we enjoy the party”. Paris cheered the best players in the world. “Playing at the Philippe Chatrier was wonderful Paula added –. I congratulate Delfi and Andrea for the tournament they played, but today is our day”.

The Premier Padel circuit will come back from 19 to 26 October with the P2 in New Giza (Egypt).
