Lyon, day 1: Ruiz-Arroyo and Chozas-Augsburger win in comeback. Today the round of 16

The day 1 of the FIP Gold in Lyon, the third tournament of the CUPRA FIP Tour season with 125 FIP ranking points up for grabs for the winning pairs, was a great day. Almost all the top seeds from the two draws have passed the first round and today, at the Palais des Sports, they will be protagonists of a very long day, with the round of 16 matches scheduled. Victory in the opener for Ale Alonso and Andrea Ustero, who after reaching the final at the Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel returned to the court with the other young Spanish talent, overcoming Carlotta Casali and Lorena Vano, who were forced to retire when the score was 6-3 5-4 for the Spaniards. On the other side of the draw, 7-5 7-6 by Ksenia Sharifova and Lucia Martinez Gomez (2) to Jana Montes and Lucia Peralta. Cleaner victories for the number 3 seed (Bea Caldera and Lorena Rufo, 6-0 6-1 to Peco/Potrtillo) and 4 (Carolina Orsi and Nuria Rodriguez, 6-2 6-2 to Castro Vilela/Sanchez).

In the men’s draw, the top two pairs on the draws had to fight before making it through the round in three sets. Alex Ruiz and Alex Arroyo won from a set down against Swedish qualifiers Slaryd/Axelsson (4-6 6-4 6-3); Alex Chozas and Leo Augsburger did the same against Belgian Clement Geens and French Dylan Guichard (6-4 6-7 6-3). The feat of the day, however, was that of Mario Del Castillo and Nacho Vilariño, who beat Enrique Goenaga and Juanlu Esbri, the number 4 seed, in two sets.
